A tasty, buttery support for any summertime BBQ. A burger bun recipe is a great asset to have, and homemade is always better.

I made these yesterday to go with the crispy chicken sandwich and it was the perfect canvas to for any burger. The good news is these buns only take 3 hours from start to finish. The dough was awesome to knead and shape into buns. With a quick egg wash before baking you get a beautiful golden top.

Brioche Burger Buns

makes 8 buns

Ingredients:

- 1 cup warm water

- 3 tablespoons warm milk

- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast

- 2 1/2 tablespoons white sugar

- 1 large egg, beaten

- 3 1/3 cups all purpose flour

- 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt

- 2 1/2 tablespoon butter, at room temperature

Egg wash

- 1 large egg

- 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

1. In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine warm water, warm milk, yeast and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until yeast has activated.

2. In a large bowl combine flour and salt. Add the butter, using your hands mix the butter in until flour mix is slightly crumbly.

3. Add yeast mixture and egg to flour bowl. Using a rubber spatula mix until dough has started to form. Turn out onto an unfloured surface and start to knead, dough will feel slightly sticky but don’t be tempted to dust with flour. Knead for 7 minutes.

4. Shape dough into a ball and place into a large greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for at least 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

5. Line a cookie sheet with parchment or baking mat.

6. Divide the risen dough into 8 equal pieces, if you want to be exact you can use a scale.

7. Form each piece of dough into a ball, of dough is too sticky dust with just a little flour. Place balls on parchment lined cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Cover tray with clean kitchen towel and let rise until doubled in size

8. Preheat oven to 400F. Fill a small roasting pan with water and place in the oven on the lowest rack. 9. Once buns have doubled in size, beat egg and water then brush each bun thoroughly with egg wash. Bake in oven for about 15 minutes until tops are golden brown, turning the cookie sheet halfway through bake time. 10. When buns are cooked transfer from cookie sheet to wire rack right away.

Serve Fresh or save for another day.

These buns freeze very well, when thawing just let them sit at room temperature
