Junk Food Cookies

Updated: Dec 13, 2020

Sweet or salty🤷🏻‍♀️? A question many have already picked a side, on one hand you crave something sweet or on the other hand something salty. As the great food expert Joey Tribbiani once said “put your hands together“. These cookies do just that using the sweetness of chocolate and butterscotch and the saltiness of pretzels and chips, it’s a match made in heaven!

Christmas season is here and baking is in full swing, time to try new recipes and bake some classic ones. These cookies are an old favourite of mine with a bit of a twist on the original chocolate chip cookie. First by browning the butter you get a rich nutty flavour. Mixing in not only chocolate and butterscotch chips but also crushed pretzels and plain chips you combine the sweet and salty flavours of some of your favourite junk foods.

Browning butter is a very quick and simple step to add a great layer of flavour to your cookies. You just need butter and a saucepan, with the heat set on medium high you toss the butter in and let it melt. Start to swirl your sauce pan once butter is melted until you notice the colour start to turn a light amber. You then just continue to stir the butter until it reaches a nice caramel colour/dark amber. Remove pan from heat and let cool to room temperature and voila you are done and have a great ingredient to had to your recipes.

  7. Using a 2 inch cookie scoop, scoop cookies into a prepared baking sheet and sprinkle each with a little sea salt. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are slightly golden. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
